Take a look at any Blackpool fan's fixture list and you will notice a thick red circle around Blackpool v Manchester United. The two clubs may be separated by one golden, and 39 not so golden miles, but to any Tangerines fan this is the north west derby they've been waiting for.
The nature in which Blackpool are going about trying to stay in the Premier League has been commended. Their 'attack at all costs' mentality has reaped dividends eight times already this term (12 if you count the draws they've achieved because quite frankly, no one give them a hope this season), they have one of the best goal-scoring records in the division, and as crazy as it sounds, a win against the league leaders on Tuesday evening will catapult Ian Holloway's men to seventh in the table.
Yet despite the lofty heights Blackpool could reach with a win, a loss would start alarm bells ringing and cause a few people to start quoting relegation odds again. Blackpool have lost five of their last six now (all competitions) and are just six points ahead of the drop zone.
For United it's plain sailing. They've stopped conceding goals (just three conceded and five clean sheets in last eight games), they are playing excellent football, they don't lose, and Wayne Rooney looks like he is finding form. You can question their away record all you like, but the fact reamins they're unbeaten and on only one occasion - against Aston Villa - have they looked in danger of losing.
The big news is Blackpool's star midfielder Charlie Adam's transfer request, presumably on the advice of his agent after interest from Liverpool intensified over the weekend. Blackpool have quickly rejected Adam's request and he is likely to be in the line-up to face United given Holloway's positive words on the situation. DJ Campbell should return following the illness that caused him to miss the Sunderland game at the weekend. Sir Alex Ferguson will have Rafael available after the full-back served a one game suspension, though Rio Ferdinand (groin) and Michael Carrick (ankle) will have to pass late fitness tests if they're to play.
Match Odds: Blackpool 9.8, Manchester United 1.38, The Draw 5.5
I can't look beyond a United victory, though there's no disputing Blackpool have it in their armoury to cause the title favourites problems. If this is to be Adam's last game then he will be desperate to put in a good performance, though United should enjoy plenty of possession in midfield and be able to pick their way through Blackpool's defence. Alternatively, there's no side in the country better than United at allowing the opposition to come on to them and then hitting on the break. Whichever way the Red Devils play it they should be too strong for Blackpool and come away with all three points.
