Club president Massimo Moratti claims the team have underperformed recently due to fatigue, but Montella feels the defending Serie A champions are still a fantastic team.

"Inter has quality players and it's not necessary now for me to list their qualities because we all know that," he said.

Moratti told the club's official website he believes Inter's current slump will be hard to stop and that the players need a longer rest than they can be afforded due to the semi-final.

Rangers travel to South Lanarkshire today to take on bottom club Hamilton Accies who already look destined for life outside the SPL next season.

Accies being my local club, I hope they find some way out of trouble, but hopefully they won't start today because I'd much prefer Rangers to get the three points and keep up the pressure on leaders Celtic.

Accies are TWELVE points behind St Mirren and really need a win here today otherwise they will need to make up those twelve points with only eighteen points available to them between now and the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Rangers are FIVE behind Celtic and can not afford any slip ups whatsoever. We've came back from five points behind before with less games to play than we have now but I'd rather not have to climb that mountain again thank you.

It will be a tough game. Accies may be struggling but if anything that will make it even harder because they are fighting for their lifes now. Rangers should have too much quality for them in the end though.

Porto comes into this match on great form as they are coming off a huge league win over rivals Benfica, and have been crowned champions of the Portuguese First Division (their 25 th league title in the history of the club). Their Europa League form is just as impressive as they only lost 1 match so far in the entire tournament, that loss was the teams first in their last 7 home matches in Europe. The Portuguese outfit will actually feel comfortable with this match up even though these teams are meeting for the first time, having dispatched Russian opposition in the last round beating CSKA Moscow 3-1 in aggregate. Porto has one of the most in demand young coaching minds in the game, as André Villas-Boas is earning a lot of respect from the soccer world. A disciple of Jose Mourinho he has learned from one of the most successful coaches and is looking to duplicate similar European success with Porto as his mentor did. This is a squad full of attacking talent, but the players to watch are Forwards Radamel Falcao and Hulk, they compliment each other well and have combined for 10 goals in this competition. The winner of this match will play the winner of the Villarreal and Twente, however with SC Braga and Benfica also in the competition this is the first time three Portugese teams have made it to the Quarterfinals in the same UEFA competition. Portuguese supporters should be excited by the fact that there is a chance to see an all Portuguese Semifinals and Final.

As for Spartak, although they have been playing in European competition the Russian Premier League works on a different calendar and they are just beginning their domestic season. The Russian outfit dropped down from the Champions League group stages by virtue of their 3 rd place group finish, but they have responded by defeating fellow Champions League drop outs Basel and completely dismantling another Champions League victim in Ajax by a 4-0 aggregate score line. Spartak Moscow’s overall record against Portugese sides is 3 -2 -1 with a record of 2-0-1 when playing in Portugal. Although Russian and Portuguese sides have never meet in the Quarterfinals of UEFA competition they have meet in the Finals, and Spartak Moscow can feel good knowing Russia came out on top as CSKA Moscow defeated Sporting Lisbon 3-1 to win the 2005 UEFA Cup. The main players to watch for in Coach Valery Karpin are three from their Brazilian contingent in captain and Midfielder Alex, Forward Welliton and Midfielder Ibson (who came over to Spartak from FC Porto after a 4 year spell).

The main reason why I enjoy the Europa League is because of matches like this, two team that have never meet before are playing for something historic. I like Porto to win this tie and advance to the Semifinals, but with this game at the Dragão, I will take the OVER as both team have shown a knack for hitting the back of the net as of late.

With the UEFA Europa League now in the Quarterfinal stages there are some interesting match ups left in the competition, one of these just has a classic sound to it as Benfica host PSV Eindhoven in the First Leg at Estádio da Luz.

Benfica come into this match having lost domestically to FC Porto and seeing their hated rivals being crowned Champions for the Portuguese First Division and celebrating on their home ground has got to make them upset. Benfica made it to this stage having beat Germany’s Stuttgart and France’s PSG by 4-1 and 3-2 aggregate score lines respectively. This is the only tie left in the Europa League between teams that have meet before, Benfica have an overall record of 1-3-1 against PSV but have a 0-1-1 record against them when playing in Portugal. Even with that not so impressive home record against PSV this team has made Estádio da Luz into a fortress, as they are unbeaten in four UEFA Europa League games (going 3-1-0 in that span) and have lost only one of their last 12 European home matches. Coached by Jorge Jesus, this teams key players are Forward Franco Jara as well as Midfielders Óscar Cardozo and Pablo Aimar. Even at the advanced ages of Cardozo and Aimar they can still produce at a high level and Jara is quickly becoming one of the rising stars in the game.

As for PSV, they have made it to this stage by beating Glasgow Rangers in the last round. The Dutch outfit has looked really strong as is evident in their league form; although they lost a key match last time out against table toppers FC Twente they are still only separated from top spot by 2 points. PSV have an identical overall record of 1-3-1 against Benfica, but have a record of 0-2-0 against them when playing in Holland. Most might think PSV are at a disadvantage playing this game away from home, but they are actually unbeaten in their last five away games in Europe (going 4-1-0 in that span), and what might be more impressive is that they have scored 9 goals in the process. Coach Fred Rutten has some dangerous players within his squad; the likes of Forward Ola Toivonen and Midfielder Balázs Dzsudzsák are the main threats as they have combined for 7 goals in the tournament. The winner of this tie will play either Dynamo Kyiv or SC Braga in the Semis.

The fact that these two teams have meet in the 1974/75 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Quarterfinals, the 1987/88 European Champion Clubs' Cup Final and the 1998/99 UEFA Champions League Group Stage make this tie all the more fascinating. I’m siding with PSV to win this tie, as while teams like Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Napoli are all eliminated I believe they are the best team left in the tournament. Although Benfica have a great home record PSV have been road warriors, not only are they winning those matches but they are scoring goals as well.

There’s more straws to clutch at as the Ukrainians have won nine of their last 10 Champions league matches and scored 26 goals along the way and Shakhtar have scored the most goals from outside the box in this season's Champions League. The record books paint an interesting picture as Shakhtar have won two and lost three of their six European meetings against Barcelona, but most recently they won 3-2 on their last trip to the Nou Camp. Try as I might I can’t find enough evidence to back the underdogs on this one, it’s going to be Barcelona’s night.

Four goals down and facing one of the most expensively assembled squads in Europe, Tottenham's chances of progressing to the Champions League semi-finals tonight look slim.

Harry Redknapp's side will have to do something they have only done three times this season at White Hart Lane: score four goals. Two of these occasions, however, have come in this seasons Champions League though, which will provided them with a faint glimmer of hope.

Those victories came against Young Boys and FC Twente, but tomorrow they will be facing a much higher calibre of opposition in Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho's side have not lost on their European travels this season and have only conceded two goals away from the Bernabeu. They are also Europe's joint top scorers with 23 goals and in Mezut Ozil they have Europe's most creative player - the German international has six Champions League assists to his name so far.

All the stats suggest that this quarter-final tie is as good as over, but in knockout football nothing is guaranteed. Just ask Real Madrid.

In the 2004 quarter-finals they beat Monaco 4-2 in the Bernabeu and went 5-2 up on aggregate in the 36th minute of the second leg through Raul. Their passage to the semi-finals looked secured. However, two goals from Ludovic Giuly on either side of half time and one from former Madrid-man Fernando Morientes saw the French side level the tie at 5-5 and go through on away goals.

11 years earlier the Spanish giants also suffered a shock defeat at the hands of another French club. Leading 3-1 after the first leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final against Paris St.Germain, Madrid succumbed to their heaviest defeat in European competition for 12 years in the second leg, losing 4-1 to a David Ginola inspired side and 5-4 overall.

Tottenham are no strangers to European comebacks either. In 1961 - the last time they competed in Europe's elite competition - they lost their first round, first leg tie 4-2 to Poland's Gornik Zabrze but won the tie 10-5 overall after a 8-1 win, in which Cliff Jones netted a hat-trick, in the second leg at White Hart Lane.

It is this great European comeback by Bill Nicholson's legendary side that still has many Tottenham fans believing that their team can stage one of the greatest European comebacks tomorrow night.

وذكرالاتحاد المصرى لكرة القدم على موقعه الاليكترونى مساء الجمعة ان المنتخب المصرى ادى مرانه الاخير فى ظروف صعبة للغاية فى ظل احوال جوية سيئة هبت على جنوب افريقيا واكتفى الكابتن حسن شحاتة ومعاونوه باداء اللاعبين لمران خفيف داخلى بعيدا عن سوء المناخ داخل احدى الصالات وكان الجهاز الفنى قد اعتمد طوال الايام الماضية على تحفيظ اللاعبين مهامهم والتى اعتمدت على التوازن بين الدفاع والهجوم بهدف تحقيق الغرض المطلوب من اللقاء وهو الفوز والعودة للقاهرة بالنقاط الثلاث ان شاء الله واستقر شحاتة على طريقة اللعب التى سيخوض بها اللقاء و اتفق الجهاز الفنى بشكل نهائى على التشكيل الأمثل الذى سيبدأ به المباراة

الأهلي يخشى مفاجآت "سوبر سبورت" في دوري أبطال إفريقيا

يستضيف، يوم الجمعة، الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالنادي الأهلي المصري، نظيرَه سوبر سبورت الجنوب إفريقي، في ذهاب دور الـ32 من بطولة دوري الأبطال الإفريقي؛ وذلك في أولى مباريات الأهلي المصري عقب اندلاع الثورة المصرية "ثورة 25 يناير".

وتُعتبر هذه المباراة مهمَّةً ومصيريةً للجهاز الفني للفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالنادي الأهلي المصري، وكذلك جهازه الفني بقيادة البرتغالي مانويل جوزيه المدير الفني للفريق، خاصةً أنها تُعتبَر الأولى بعد فترة توقف دامت ما يقرب من شهرين؛ بسبب ثورة 25 يناير.

ويحرص لاعبو الأهلي في مباراة غد، على تأكيد مساندتهم جماهيرَهم والشعبَ المصري بمختلف الانتماءات؛ حيث يقف اللاعبون دقيقةً حدادًا على أرواح شهداء 25 يناير الذين بذلوا أرواحهم من أجل ثورة التغيير.

كما قرر الفريق أن يرتدي لاعبوه جوارب سوداء؛ لتشكِّل مع الـ"تي شيرت" الأحمر و"الشورت" الأبيض ألوان علم مصر؛ تأكيدًا لدعمهم المعنوي للثورة، بعدما سبق للاعبي الفريق أن قدَّموا دعمًا آخر إلى الشهداء بحملة التبرع بالدم بعد انطلاق الثورة مباشرةً.

يخوض أبناء "القلعة الحمراء" مباراة الجمعة بكثير من الحذر؛ خشية تعرُّضه لأية مفاجأة من الفريق الجنوب إفريقي الذي أكد حضوره إلى القاهرة من أجل تفجير مفاجأة.

واستغلَّ الأهلي المصري فترة توقف الدوري المصري في خوض سلسلة من المباريات الودية؛ حيث فاز على الترسانة 4-1، ووادي دجلة 2-1، وحرس الحدود 1-0، ومصر المقاصة 3-0، والقادسية السعودي 5-1.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has expressed his optimism that midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng could start against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Royal Blues would need a miracle to qualify for the competition again next season, given their poor Bundesliga form, which is why Raul desperately wants to ensure he gets more Champions League action this season.

"Whenever I hear the Champions League theme music, I get goosebumps," he said on his club's website.

"It would be a great success for Schalke to be one of the best eight clubs in Europe.

"You never know, it could be my last Champions League game, but the special relationship between Raul and the Champions League will last forever, no matter what happens."

However, Raul knows the tie is far from over, despite Schalke having the slight advantage of having scored an away goal in the 1-1 draw in the first leg.

"There are still 90 minutes to be played, despite our small advantage, in which they can turn things around," he added.

"They are even more dangerous away from home."

The future of Schalke manager Felix Magath could also depend on his side matching their best ever European achievement of reaching the quarter-finals.

Given their worrying Bundesliga form, Magath is under pressure to continue delivering the goods in Europe, although he has shrugged off claims he will not last until the end of the season.

"I am not worried about my job," he said.

Since the first-leg draw, Valencia have recorded two wins, a draw and a defeat in La Liga, leaving them in third spot and with a healthy four-point advantage over fourth-placed Villarreal.

Both of those league wins came away from the Mestalla, which should give Los Che encouragement for the trip to Germany, but coach Unai Emery admits they need to improve on both those performances if they are to have a chance of ousting Schalke tomorrow.

Los Che defeated Athletic Bilbao and Real Mallorca 2-1 on their travels but needed to fight back from deficits in both games.

Emery said on his personal website: "To eliminate Schalke we must improve on aspects of our play in the last two games in Bilbao and Mallorca. The victories do not hide the defects, and we know that Schalke will not let us get away with mistakes either in defence or attack."

Valencia midfielder Tino Costa added: "We know how important this game is. We're coming off a win in Mallorca, which was important, and now we're really looking forward to the match.

"We know that it's going to be very tough but we're very focused and up for the game."

Emery has taken a 23-man squad with him to Gelsenkirchen, with Chori Dominguez and Miguel Brito the only players missing.

Schalke are still without striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who is injured, while full-back Lukas Schmitz is suspended.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will leave it late to decide whether or not Gareth Bale will feature against AC Milan in the Champions League.

Bale returned from a back injury in the weekend draw at Wolves, coming off the bench to play for just over 20 minutes at Molineux, but Redknapp has revealed the player felt the effects of that appearance.

Redknapp said: “His back's fine but he was stiff in the legs.

“It's touch and go. We'd love to start with him but if he's not quite right I wouldn't want to take a chance.”

Arsenal Vs. Barcelona, 2011: Champions League Round Of Sixteen Clash Continues As Arsenal Try To Hold 2-1 Lead

Mar 7, 2011 - Arsenal travel to Spain looking to hold onto their 2-1 lead from the first leg of their Champions League round of sixteen clash against FC Barcelona, but it won't be easy for the London side to overcome arguably the best team in football. Although Inter Milan shut up shop at the Nou Camp in their epic semifinal battle with the Catalans last year, even they couldn't manage to hold the Spanish side scoreless, eventually losing 1-0 on the day but winning 3-1 on aggregate. A 1-0 loss would see Arsenal eliminated on away goals, and they're nowhere near the mobile defensive fortress that was Inter under Jose Mourinho, so they'll almost certainly be forced to come at Barcelona on their own turf - a recipe for either a mauling or an extremely entertaining match.

With the surprise inclusion of striker Robin van Persie in Arsene Wenger's travelling squad, they may well be able to avoid the former. Barcelona are, in coach Pep Guardiola's words, 'a terrible team without the ball,' and they're going to have to do without captain Carlos Puyol and fellow centre back Gerard Pique. Although the Catalans will still boast a dizzying array of talent up front, in defence they look ripe for picking - ersatz centre half Sergio Busquets and Eric Abidal do not a formidable partnership make. In scoring two second half goals in the first leg at the Emirates, Arsenal have demonstrated their ability to rip through Barcelona's back line.

The question, however, is whether they can avoid a repeat of last year's humiliation, where they held their opposition to a 2-2 draw in London before getting massacred 4-1 by Lionel Messi and company (but mostly Messi) in Spain. With Alex Song out with a knee injury, it's unclear how Arsene Wenger will set up his midfield. He'll need a holding player to complement the exuberant talent of Cesc Fabregas and the hard work of Jack Wilshere while keeping both Andres Iniesta and Messi at bay. It's a tricky task for anybody - certainly it was far too much for Song to handle in the first leg - and any weakness in the midfield will be exploited ruthlessly by the Spainish champions.

Bacary Sagna will return at right-back for Arsenal, but most of the Gunners' problems at full back will come where Dani Alves attacks Gael Clichy on their left. Two weeks ago Alves had a relatively poor game and his runs forwards left the defence ludicrously exposed, but if the Brazilian is his usual self in this match he could give the Arsenal back line nightmares. David Villa and Xavi Hernandez will probably give anyone nightmares no matter what sort of mood they're in - Barcelona will simply have Xavi conduct the attack while their forwards look to drag the defenders out of shape to exploit the gaps. It's not a happy situation for a team to come up against.

Barcelona haven't looked brilliant lately, however, and their defence is a major worry. Although the home side should still be favoured to advance here, you can't rule Arsenal out. If they can nick an early goal, or even hold Barcelona out for the first half, things will get very interesting indeed.

In the last match Shakhtar Donetsk scored three away goals in 12 minutes to stun the crowd (and Roma) and leave the bookmakers frantically recalculating their soccer odds. They’d love to get back and lift a trophy this year. Roma are no wild cards in this competition though, they are a quality side and have won Serie A three times, as well as winning nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

In Europe, Associazione Sportiva Roma to give them their full name, have won an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Cup in 1990–91. They should feel that hey have the quality to lift the cup themselves and they are capable to overcoming the 3-2 first leg loss.

Defender Nicolas Burdisso appreciates the importance of Tuesday’s clash. "I have faith because we are Roma and we cannot forget this," he crowed, "At the Olimpico we played the game, apart from those ten minutes”. Since the 3-2 defeat Roma are a different side, literally. They have a new (caretaker) manager, Vincenzo Montella and their record reads won two, drawn one and lost one since their shock defeat last month.

But Shakhtar Donetsk winger Willian has vowed his side will finish the job against Roma. "Roma were not in good shape mentally in the first leg. The running was the same, but we took our chances more.” Roma’s superstars Francesco Totti, Mirko Vucinic and Marco Borriello are likely to lead the offensive in Donetsk, but Shakhtar seem to be relishing the challenge. "Totti? He is great, but our coach has been making us watch videos of Borriello and Vucinic," Shakhtar forward Willian Borges da Silva said.

After an epic battle at Emirates Stadium on February 16, Barcelona and Arsenal face off at Camp Nou on Tuesday with Arsenal leading the Champions League Round-of-16 series on aggregate, 2-1.

The last match lived up to the feverish build up, and tomorrow's clash has offered similar anticipation. Robin van Persie played all 90 minutes, and scored in the 78th minute off a shot where Victor Valdes was poorly positioned.

For Tuesday's meeting, van Persie may be an unexpected addition. The Dutch forward has been battling a knee injury but may be fit for the match. Should van Persie miss the match, it's likely Nicklas Bendtner would be brought on to replace him.

It appears Cesc Fabregas will be in the lineup. Apparently, the captain has a "90 percent" chance of playing against Barcelona, a team he's been rumored to join for quite some time. This is surprising and very positive news for manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners could use any type of boost after poor recent results.

On Saturday, Arsenal was only able to manage a tie against Sunderland at Emirates Stadium, and lost to Birmingham on a botched clearance in the League Cup Final.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola believes that Arsenal is mentally fit for the match despite some of Arsenal's recent setbacks.

"I keep hearing about the fragility in the minds of the Arsenal players, but I do not agree," Guardiola said. "They are competing with Manchester United for the Premier League, reached the final of the Carling Cup and a few seasons ago were in the final of the Champions League."

The Gunners have been playing a long stretch without their lead goalkeeper, Lukasz Fabianski. In his place, Wojciech Szczesny has done a more than serviceable job .

Alex Song will be inactive for the match due to injury, though Wenger confirmed Jack Wilshere will be available.

The Catalans aren't at full strength for the match with Gerard Pique suspended and Carlos Puyol still nursing a knee injury.

Barcelona remains a dominant force in La Liga. Since the Arsenal loss, the Catalans have won all four of their matches, not in typical thrashings but still by a combined score of 7-2.

Barcelona is especially tough at Camp Nou, and Wenger knows his side can expect Barcelona to play at their top form at home despite the unavailability of Pique and Puyol.

Barcelona is led by a fine goal-scoring duo. David Villa scored in the last meeting, and scored in the two La Liga matches that followed. Villa came on as a substitute in the last Barcelona match in the 66 th minute, so he should be well rested.

Lionel Messi failed to score in the February 16 match, so expect inspired play from the clever striker.

If Liverpool did not have a North West Derby staring them in the face, there may have been more reflection on what happened last weekend. A 3-1 loss at a relegation battler (West Ham) - one that played more one-sided than the final score - would normally cast some doubt on the strength of a new project, and the Reds under Kenny Dalglish and Fenway Sports Group are still very much a new project. But because that project is in its infancy - seemingly restructured since the last time Liverpool faced Manchester United - there was a willingness to move beyond last weekend's setback and concentrate on the task at hand: Can the Reds derail Manchester United?

And by derail, we mean prevent them from winning the title, and after Manchester United lost mid-week to Chelsea, a Liverpool win on Sunday becomes even more influential in deciding the title. Not only does it keep the gap between United and Arsenal at three points (with the Red Devils having arguably the more difficult run-in), it also stacks another set of doubts on top of those United were handed mid-week. At Stamford Bridge, the Red Devils had a match for the taking - a chance to end a run of disappointing results at Chelsea that extends back to 2002. But the leaders failed to do so, again forgoing a chance to take a stranglehold on a record-setting 19th first division title. If Liverpool can give United their first losing streak of the season, they'll be compounding that set of doubts, possibly preventing United from taking sole-possession of the record.

"Who will lift the flag and carry on?"

Liverpool's ability to do so will be dictated by how readily they can replace Fernando Torres. Obviously, Liverpool has replaced the Chelsea striker. They've incorporated Luis Suárez, and Andy Carroll is due back at any time. But as it concerns matching-up with Manchester United, Torres's absence is of particular importance. In their last four meetings with United, Liverpool has scored six goals, half of which came from Torres. The Spaniard's ability to play close to and exploit United's central defenders with his combination of speed and skill provides a completely different profile to Suárez or Carroll. Or Dirk Kuyt, for that matter. With Torres gone, Dalglish is going to have to find another way to threaten United.

To this point, that other way has been Raul Meireles. Since Dalglish took over Liverpool in early January, the Portuguese midfielder has scored four goals, recently being named the Premier League's February Player of the Month. He is one of five different goal scorers for Dalglish, with Liverpool yet to be shut out in league since King Kenny's return. But of those five goal scorers, only one other has recorded more than one goal: Fernando Torres. With Meireles already tallying more league goals than he ever recorded at Porto, it seems unlikely the 27-year-old is really the second coming of, well, Steven Gerrard.

A banged-up Rangers crew head into St. Mirren Park on Sunday with Maurice Edu and company looking to shake off their Scottish Cup disappointment.

Edu looks likely to start again for the Light Blues who are loaded with injuries at arguably the worst time of the season.

In addition to their domestic cup competitions, Rangers are still just five points out of first in the Scottish Premier League and are already through to the final 16 of the Europa League where they will face PSV Eindhoven.

The past two weeks have also seen Rangers experience a rollercoaster of results with two losses to Celtics bookending an emphatic SPL win over St. Johnstone and their Europa League triumph against Sporting Lisbon.

In an effort to keep his players focused on the tasks at hand, Rangers boss Walter Smith had banned all use of social media by the players much ot the chagrin of Edu's 400,000-plus Twitter followers.

The head man has also forbade his players from late night ventures to nightclubs arguing that anyone suiting up in a Rangers uniforn needs to be focused on soccer rather than spirits.

St. Mirren come into the match with one of the more weaker defenses in the SPL with 44 goals allowed.

Rangers arrival El Hadji Diouf should have ample opportunity to net his first league goal since landing at Ibrox during the transfer window.

Rangers will be without Kirk Broadfoot, Vladimir Weiss, Lee McCulloch, Jamie Ness, Sasa Papac, Kyle Lafferty and Nikica Jelavic while St. Mirren will be missing David Barron and Garry Brady.

Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid know that any slip they make will be heavily punished by league leaders Barcelona, and as if to reinforce the point, they slipped further behind the Catalan club at the weekend, having been held to a scoreless draw by Deportivo La Coruna. Los Blancos meet Malaga on Thursday night, eager to keep pace with their great rivals, who play 24 hours earlier.

The door had been opened for los Blancos to make an assault on the title a couple of weeks ago when Sporting de Gijon held Barca, but almost as quickly as crisis talk at la Blaugrana rose, Madrid’s inability to break down a packed and well organized Depor defense at the weekend has seen it quelled.

Mourinho evidently wasn’t impressed by the tactics adopted by the ultra-defensive Galicians at a venue that has previously proven cruel to los Merengues. “We played against one goalkeeper and 10 defenders for the second half,” he said after the draw. “Only one team played to win. The other played to exhaustion and defended and they won the prize. We, who tried to win, are penalized for this.

“I cannot criticize my players for their efforts as they did all they can.”

While it hasn’t been uncommon for teams to hold los Blancos to low scoring draws away from the capital, no-one has yet to breach the great club’s perfect record under Mourinho at their Bernabeu home. Madrid boast a perfect home record in all competitions this season, and they’ll expect to maintain it through this fixture, at least.

Slipping Back

Real Madrid may be the masters at spending big, but comparatively speaking, Malaga have splashed the cash this season, though their efforts in the transfer market have come up drastically short. Former Blancos boss Manuel Pellegrini took the reins from Jesualdo Ferreira in November, but just as the ex-Porto boss struggled to get the team playing, so too has the Chilean, whose side arrested a worrying run of seven matches without a victory with their 3-1 win over Almeria at the weekend.

Pellegrini’s return to the Bernabeu should simply be a sub-plot for the coach, who needs to be targeting quick points for his side against any opponents. Presently, Malaga are on a run of four matches unbeaten, which includes a point earned against Villarreal at El Madrigal. That impressive tie was secured thanks to a late goal from Sebastian Fernandez, and recent draws against Sevilla and Getafe potentially point to a brighter future.

But Malaga’s season has been one long false dawn for the club, starting when they were bought by Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani in the summer. Anything earned at the Bernabeu would be quite remarkable.

FC Bayern Munich vs Schalke 04 – DFB Pokal Semi-Final Preview

For the second straight season, FC Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 will meet in the DFB Pokal semi-final, with this battle taking place in Munich after Bayern’s 1-0 extra time win in Gelsenkirchen last season. ESPN Deportes will air the match live beginning at 2:30 p.m. Eastern while ESPN3.com will also stream the match live. For those without access to either, there should be plenty of streaming options available, as the match will air live on free TV in Germany. By game time, I will have returned to Bayern Offside World Headquarters, (no more airport writing and roadside *bucks match-watching for me!) and I plan to celebrate with a full live blog. Look for it beginning about a half an hour before the match.

Stumbles and Injuries

Schalke has continued their season long stumble without quite falling in recent weeks. Though their draw in the Champions League in Valencia was an achievement of sorts (the match looked like it should have been 2-0 or 3-0 to Valencia in the first half), they’ve hung on by a thread in the Bundesliga. But in this year’s Bundesliga, there’s no shortage of incompetence so Schalke’s underachievement appears rather mild. It won’t feel mild however, when their board looks forward to a season without the revenue of a European competition.

It’s not like Felix Magath doesn’t have plenty of warm bodies around, but he doesn’t have too many effective ones. He’s got to major injury concerns going into this one. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar injured his knee in training Tuesday, and it appears he’ll be out of action in this one. Magath could use Edu or Mario Gavranovic in his place, with the wild card being newly acquired Angelos Charisteas. Jefferson Farfan, probably the only player capable of consistently feeding Schalke’s talent up front trained fully on Monday and will probably be ready to go after missing the weekend draw vs. Nürnberg. Sergio Escudero, handed his first Bundesliga start at left back last week, is less certain. If he can’t go, Lukas Schmitz pops back into the lineup. That would be a bonus for Bayern, because Schmitz has been pretty bad all season and will definitely need help against Arjen Robben.

Inevitably, the storyline of the match is going to be about the keepers, and the endless speculation about what’s happening with their contracts. But I dare say that the more important factor in the on-field battle will be to see if Bayern can thwart Peer Kluge in the midfield. In the prior match between the teams this season, Kluge matched up mainly with Mark van Bommel and was the clear victor in that battle. If Bayern can bottle up Kluge inside and Farfan outside, there simply won’t be many touches for Raul and whoever joins him up front to make something happen.

Win What is Winnable

On the Bayern side of the ball, Louis van Gaal has shown a preference for starting a bit of a “B” lineup in the Pokal. But at the semi-final stage a season ago, he essentially did start his first choice lineup. Here, he has a perfect opportunity to work Toni Kroos back into the rotation by giving him the start, putting Luiz Gustavo at LB to contain Farfan. But don’t expect him to do that-the early word is that Gustavo is favored to get the start in midfield alongside Schweinstieger, with Breno earning the start at CB next to Tymoshchuk, forcing Badstuber to the bench.

I frankly don’t see Schalke trying to play the pressure game that has been so effective against Bayern this season. To that end, I have the sense this match is going to start out as the polar opposite of Saturday’s league match-no one’s going to feel like 22 guys were shot out of a cannon at the start of this one. When Bastian Schweinstieger isn’t forced to become a human bathyscaph as he was against Dortmund, we can expect some actual link-ups in a threatening part of the pitch.

Stat Lines

*Schalke has not scored more than 1 goal in a match in any competition since December 7.

*Arjen Robben’s match-winning goal in last season’s DFB Pokal semi-final was the only goal Schalke surrendered in the entire competition.

*The last DFB Pokal semi-final to occur in the Allianz Arena was on March 19, 2008, when Bayern defeated Felix Magath’s VfL Wolfsburg 2-0. Only 3 members of the Bayern starting 11 that day (Altintop, Klose, Ribery) remain with the club and Ribery is the only one expected to start in the 2011 edition.

Prediction

I frankly don’t think there’s going to be a psychological hangover for Bayern in this one. Despite the fact that Schalke has played well in Munich over the past few years, I can’t see where the goals are going to come from for them. Expect another Bayern-Schalke played close to the vest, but tipping ever so slightly in Munich’s favor..

Celtic have Scott Brown and Mark Wilson back from suspension for the Co-operative Insurance Cup final against Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.

But defender Daniel Majstorovic is out with a broken toe on his right foot.

Rangers are without Kyle Bartley and Jamie Ness, while Kyle Lafferty and Vladimir Weiss are doubtful and Richard Foster cup-tied.

But Steven Davis is expected to start despite a knock and Nikica Jelavic returns after European ineligibility.

Kirk Broadfoot and Lee McCulloch of Rangers are long-term absentees through injury, as are Andreas Hinkel and Shaun Maloney of Celtic.

Neil Alexander is expected to start in goal, with Rangers manager Walter Smith having stated that he had been given his place in the Europa League games against PSV Eindhoven to have him match fit for Hampden.

With Bartley and Foster unavailable, Rangers will need a defensive reshuffle and a simple lack of bodies may force Smith to abandon the back five he has deployed in recent matches.

Sasa Papac could move into a central position, with teenage midfielder Gregg Wylde filling in at left-back but assistant manager Ally McCoist has hinted at a more offensive approach.

Steven Naismith and El Hadji Diouf started on the bench during Thursday's 1-0 defeat to PSV and are likely to start this time.

Glenn Loovens filled in for Majstorovic in Celtic's 2-1 Scottish Cup at Inverness on Wednesday, while Thomas Rogne could also be called upon to join Charlie Mulgrew in the heart of defence.

Wilson and skipper Brown are almost certain to reclaim their places, meaning Efrain Juarez will make way at right-back and Ki Sung-Yeung might be the man to miss out in midfield.

Manager Neil Lennon could accommodate Ki and Brown and play Georgios Samaras as a lone striker but that would mean leaving out in-form forward Gary Hooper.

Barcelona vs Valencia: A Barca Blaugranes Roundtable Game Preview

Barcelona will put their record breaking away form on the line in one of the toughest games of the season. Valencia are a vary good team and they are tough beat when they play on the road but this game will be played at Mestalla stadium where Los Che boast a record of six wins, four draws and just one loss.

This is one of four very difficult away games left for Barcelona (yes I am still counting Sevilla). In the last five games played at Mestalla Barcelona have managed only one win and two draws. Injuries appear to have finally caught up with the Barcelona players and unless Xavi will be ready by the start of the game (he says he will) don't expect major changes in the lineup. Dani Alves will return from his suspension and will immediately return to his usual spot.

It is also going to be an emotional return to Valencia for David Villa, who played for Los Che for five season, where he established himself as one of the most productive goalscorers in the world.

Valencia are currently enjoying an 11 game unbeaten streak and are lying in third place on the league table where they are locked in a tight race with Villarreal. They need every point they can get, even more than Barcelona do right now, because there is a big difference between finishing the season in third or fourth place. Valencia are not a high scoring team and they have only two players with more than four goals in the season, just for comparison Barcelona have four that have scored seven or more. But they also don't give up many goals, despite playing with their third string goalkeeper for the better part of the season

This promises to be a very good game and I for one can't wait for Wednesday to see how it plays out.

Arron Duckling:

Despite the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will once again proclaim that the game at the Mestalla on Wednesday is the biggest of the season so far. Valencia are a hugely underrated team, and with talents such as Mata, Joaquin, Pablo Hernandez, Soldado in the attacking third, they cannot be underestimated.

Of course, the Blaugrana frontline is better, and in my latest piece, I told how I thought this trio is the best ever. Messi, a “home-coming” Villa and Pedro have tore apart countless opposition and no matter the pressure, have almost always delivered. So with all 3 expected to start in front of our strongest midfield trio (Xavi’s fitness allowing) there are goals in this game.

Much of the recent talk has been of a “Catalan Crisis” but a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Mallorca has eased such talk. It was supposed to be a weekend where Barca were expected to lose ground in the title race to Madrid, but instead the opposite happened. The gap once again stands at 7 points, and victory at the Mestalla will leave Real a mind-boggling 10 points behind their fiercest rivals until kickoff in their game against Malaga.

So, it’s fitting that in the biggest game of the season so far, we regain the services of marauding right-back Dani Alves and our midfield maestro/metronome Xavi. A win here could allow Pep to rotate players on Saturday against Zaragoza in anticipation of the return leg of the Champions League, without having to worry too much about the result.

So expect Guardiola’s men to be somewhere close to their imperious best, and a match that is fiercely contested from start to finish. Whatever the result, it promises to be one of the best games of the season, although a win would be better…

برشلونة وفالنسيا في لقاء من «العيار الثقيل»

يخوض برشلونة المتصدر مواجهة بالغة الصعوبة على أرض فالنسيا الثالث في المرحلة السادسة والعشرين من بطولة اسبانيا لكرة القدم اليوم (الاربعاء)، في حين يستقبل ريال مدريد الثاني غداً ملقة الاخير .

سيشهد ملعب «ميستايا» مواجهة من العيار الثقيل بين برشلونة الذي يقدم موسماً استثنائياً، اذ فاز في 22 مباراة من أصل 25 حتى الآن، وفالنسيا الذي يمر بفترة رائعة رفعته الى المركز الثالث بفارق 10 نقاط عن ريال و17 نقطة عن الفريق الكاتالوني ووضعته في موقع مثالي للتأهل الى مسابقة دوري أبطال أوروبا في الموسم المقبل.

ولا يزال برشلونة يستفيد من هفوات الريال أبرز ملاحقيه على الصدارة، بفوزه السهل على مايوركا 3-صفر في الجولة السابقة وتعثر الفريق الملكي على أرض ديبورتيفو لاكورونيا بدون أهداف.

سيعتمد برشلونة مجدداً على «الجوهرة» الارجنتيني ليونيل ميسي متصدر ترتيب الهدافين (26)، كما سيستفيد من عودة لاعب وسطه تشافي بعد ابلاله من الاصابة بحسب ما ذكرت صحيفة «سبورت» الاسبانية .

قمة المواجهات الأوروبية .. تشيلسي ومانشستر يونايتد

يحل مانشستر يونايتد ضيفا على تشيلسي حامل اللقب الموسم الماضي في مباراة مؤجلة على ملعب ستامفورد بريدج اليوم وعينه على نقاطها الثلاث التي ستجعله في وضع مريح لاستعادة اللقب.

وكانت المباراة المقررة اصلا في تشرين الثاني الماضي لكنها تأجلت بسبب الثلوج التي غطت معظم مدن بريطانيا في تلك الفترة.

ويتصدر مانشستر يونايتد الترتيب العام بفارق 4 نقاط عن منافسه المباشر ارسنال.

وحقق تشيلسي انطلاقة قوية في مطلع الموسم الحالي ورشحه النقاد للاحتفاظ بلقبه بسهولة في ظل البداية المتعثرة لارسنال الذي خسر مباراتين على ارضه، واهدار مانشستر يونايتد العديد من النقاط بسبب التعادلات المتتالية. بيد ان مستوى الفريق اللندني تراجع بشكل مفاجىء اعتبارا من تشرين الثاني الماضي وفقد بدرجة كبيرة امكانية الاحتفاظ بلقبه كونه يتخلف عن مانشستر بفارق 15 نقطة ويحتل حاليا المركز الخامس غير المؤهل الى دوري ابطال اوروبا.

ولم يؤد انتقال هداف ليفربول ومنتخب اسبانيا فرناندو توريس والمدافع البرازيلي الدولي دافيد لويز الى تحسن في اداء الفريق الذي خسر لقبه بطلا لكأس انكلترا بخسارته على ارضه امام ايفرتون بركلات الترجيح، كما ان توريس لم يسجل اي هدف في اربع مباريات خاضها في صفوفه في مختلف المسابقات.

لكن التاريخ لا يقف الى جانب مانشستر لتحقيق الفوز في لندن، حيث فشل الشياطين الحمر في الفوز على ملعب ستامفورد بريدج في 13 مباراة وتحديدا منذ نيسان عام 2002.

ولا يعيش تشيلسي افضل احواله في ظل شائعات عن امكانية رحيل هدافه العاجي ديدييه دروجبا في نهاية الموسم الحالي اذا ارتأى مدرب الفريق الايطالي كارلو انشيلوتي تفضيل الثنائي توريس والفرنسي انيلكا عليه في المباريات المقبلة.

واعتبر قائد تشيلسي جون تيري بان فريقه بامس الحاجة الى الفوز على مانشستر يونايتد لتعزيز حظوظه باحتلال المركز الرابع المؤهل الى دوري ابطال اوروبا ولاستعادة الثقة وقال في هذا الصدد «لا بديل لنا عن الفوز، واذا قدر لنا ذلك، فان هذا الامر سيضع ضغطا كبيرا على الفرق القريبة منا».

Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun desperate to win against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League

Chelsea midfielder, Yossi Benayoun believes that if his team fails to beat Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League then their season is over.

Chelsea will travel to Old Trafford for the second-leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday, 12th April, 2011. The Blues lost 1-0 in the first-leg at Stamford Bridge after Wayne Rooney scored in the 24th minute for United.

Chelsea are behind leaders United in the Premier League by 11-points and have been knocked out of Carling Cup and the FA Cup as well. Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s only hope of winning silverware in this ingoing 2010-11 season depends on their Champions League game on Tuesday.

Benayoun, who has missed a major part of the season due to a calf injury, has admitted that this is a make or break game for his team in this season.

The Israeli said, “Everyone knows we are playing to save our season. Everyone knows it's the most important game of the season. We have to save our season and try to qualify for the semi-finals. It's most likely from here we will finish in the top three or four in the Premier League and be in the Champions League again next season.”

“That's almost done. So the only thing left is to try to win a trophy - and the only trophy we can win is the Champions League. That's why we have to do our best and give everything. Because if we win this game it will change everything,” added Benayoun.

The former Liverpool midfielder added that if his team manage to beat United on Tuesday, it will pave the way to glory for them. He reckons that if they manage to qualify for the semi-finals, then there is a huge chance that they can go on to win the tournament.

The 30-year-old added that his team faces an uphill battle against United in the second-leg but they have proved in the past that they can beat them at Old Trafford.

Constant injury problems have restricted the midfielder to only 5 appearances this season.

Gamba Osaka face Melbourne Victory at the AFC Champions League group stage for the first time since their title-winning run three years ago and coach Akira Nishino wants his side to emulate that success once again, starting with victory over the Australians tomorrow.

The Japanese side won both encounters against Melbourne back in 2008, edging a 4-3 thriller at AAMI Park before securing a 2-0 victory on home soil at Expo' 70 Stadium, and finally went on to claim the continental crown. However, they have struggled to come close to repeating that feat in the last two editions of the tournament and Nishino is determined to see that record change, starting with three points.

Neil Lennon will be wary of former Old Firm adversary Francis Jeffers when he takes his Celtic side to Motherwell on Sunday.

The Irishman was skipper at Parkhead in 2005 when Jeffers had a short loan period at Ibrox.

The former Everton and Arsenal striker, 30, returned to Scotland earlier this month to sign for the Fir Park club and scored his first goal for Stuart McCall's side in the recent 2-1 win at Aberdeen.

Lennon is well aware of the threat the Englishman could pose to the Hoops' Clydesdale Bank Premier League title hopes.

"I know him, he was at Rangers," the Parkhead boss said.

"It's a good bit of business for Motherwell to bring someone of his experience to the club.

"He is a good player and knows where the goal is.

"He's crafty, he flits in and out of games and suddenly pops up with a goal.

"He's already made his mark, he's scored against Aberdeen so he is someone we will need to keep an eye on."

Beram Kayal is suspended for Sunday`s encounter while Freddie Ljungberg has a calf problem and will resume training next week.

On-form Celtic are strong favourites to cement their place at the top of the SPL.

The Hoops are eight points ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers albeit having played two games more than the champions.

Motherwell, for their part, have blown hot and cold recently and after being thrashed 6-0 against Rangers at Ibrox they picked up maximum points away to Aberdeen and against Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton at Fir Park.

However, it was back to square one when they were beaten at home by struggling St Mirren in midweek but Lennon expects a tough afternoon.

"They had a bad result at Ibrox and bounced back with two decent results against Aberdeen and Hamilton," the Hoops boss said.

"I'm sure Stuart will be disappointed by the way they played on Wednesday night. They didn't do themselves justice.

"But we know they will be up for the game.

"It's live on television, there should be a good crowd there and the players will realise that they probably let their manager down and he will be looking for a reaction from them.

"Fir Park has always been a difficult place to get a result and I can't see Sunday being any different."

Motherwell manager McCall will tell his players to get the ball forward more quickly against Celtic.

Motherwell missed the chance to go fourth on Wednesday when they lost 1-0 at home to St Mirren with a performance McCall branded "unacceptable".

The former Scotland midfielder felt his players lacked St Mirren's hunger but he was also frustrated that they struggled to get the ball out wide to Jamie Murphy and the recalled Chris Humphrey.

And McCall has told his players to adapt to the barren and sandy Fir Park pitch when they face the Clydesdale Bank Premier League leaders.

"We've got a lot of good footballers in the side but at this stage of the season the conditions of the parks for playing free-flowing football is not great," he said.

"I think the other night we over-did the football by trying to play too many passes in wrong areas of the park.

"Some people think `well, at least you are trying to play the right way'. Sometimes you have to weigh up what's needed in any given game.

"At times we needed to get the ball in the box and create pressure.

"We were taking too many passes, and struggling to get the ball under control, to get the ball where we wanted to be. We didn't need 10 passes, we just needed two or three."

Murphy accepted his manager's criticism after McCall suffered what he described as his biggest disappointment since taking charge two months ago.

"He is a very determined guy, you could see that when he was playing," Murphy said. "That's the way he played and that's the way he manages.

"It would be weird if he didn't come in and shout at us after the game.

"All the boys accepted that, it was our fault we didn't play well."

McCall could be without four or five first-team players for the clash.

Stephen Craigan is suspended and Steve Jones, Steven Saunders (both hamstring) and Bob McHugh (wrist) definitely miss out, while Keith Lasley (ribs) and Steve Jennings (Achilles) are "touch and go".

This week the Bundesliga sees a big clash between the two best teams in Germany, as table toppers Borussia Dortmund travel to the Allianz Arena to battle 3rd place Bayern Munich.

Bayern come into this game on an impressive high, following wins over Hoffenheim and Mainz in the league they picked up a huge win in the Champions League beating Inter Milan via a 90th minute goal bay Mario Gomez that gives the Bavarian giants an advantage in the tie. With the Bundesliga shield pretty much out of reach this team is playing for a Champions League place next season, and they have turned it on at the right time as with the return on Dutch playmaker Arjen Robben they have been scoring freely. Since his return from injury Robben has scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists (in all competitions), and he’s made players like the aforementioned Mario Gomez as well as Frank Ribery and Thomas Muller play at a higher level. The one aspect of this team that comes into question is their defense; the central defender roles have been a big game of “musical chairs” with the best combination still having some issues. The two that coach Louis Van Gaal have settled on has been Anatoily Tymoschuk and Holger Badstuber, while this is an unusual partnership with Tymoschuk being a central midfielder by trade and Badstuber a left back moving to central defense (due to among other things the rise of fellow left back Diego Contento) it has managed to work out marginally well. Confidence will be high after a big win at the San Siro, it will be interesting to see if it can carry over to this match.

As for Dortmund, they come into this match a bit fresher due to not having to deal with midweek European fixtures. However, in recent results where they have dropped points they haven’t been the juggernaut they have been all year, but with an double digit lead in the table there is bound to be some complacency. Another problem that Borussia Dortmund are facing is with injuries, already without breakout player Shinji Kagawa for the remainder of the season there are now questions over Goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller, who is suffering from a swollen knee. Coach Jurgen Klopp has a stable of young stars and he’s looking to build some long-term success, Marcel Schmelzer, Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels are all signed to (in Hummels case expected to sign) long-term contracts. This will be an interesting game for Mats Hummels as he came up in the Bayern youth system, he was then was loaned out and eventually sold to Dortmund. His motivation will be high and he’ll want to prove that Bayern made the wrong decision.

This is a huge game for the neutral, and even though there aren’t really any title implications it’s still a big encounter. I lean toward Bayern in this one as Dortmund are just losing focus a little bit, this is understandable when a team has had a double digit lead in the standings week in and week out.

Cristiano Ronaldo & Co Meet Shimon Peres Ahead Of Deportivo vs Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid have welcomed yet another illustrious person ahead of this weekend’s Deportivo vs Real Madrid match. This time, they’ve met with Israeli president Shimon Peres.

Shimon Peres has good links with Florentino Perez’s Real Madrid. Last season, the Israeli president’s Peres Centre For Peace organized a match between Los Blancos and an Israelo-Palestian team at the Ramat Gan stadium.

On Thursday this week, Shimon Peres enjoyed a friendly encounter with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest of the team as he stopped by Valdebebas during his trip to the Spanish capital. The president, who was also offered a Real Madrid jersey by skipper Iker Casillas, had positive comments to share with the Spanish giants. In a statement recorded by the club’s official website, Shimon Peres declared:

“I represent our children. That’s the best representation I can offer. I want you to know the depth of the love of all our boys and girls for Real Madrid.

“You are their heroes. They’d like to be like you. When they see you, they rise up. They can make a distinction between playing football and playing war.”

When asked about his personal love for football as well as his opinion concerning Real Madrid’s aspirations under Jose Mourinho, Shimon Peres was keen to answer. He stated:

“I have two feelings and one is of jealousy. I would like it if we could be like you. The other is ‘thanks’ because you are a very classic, organized and fighting group of people.

“And not fighting just against anybody, but rather fighting for a better world and a better generation.”

Remarkably, Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid have never lost a match on a weekend that follows a midweek meeting with a top personality. Last year on May 2, the Spanish giants beat Osasuna 3-2 after getting one on one with Hollywood star Russell Crowe a few days earlier.

Coincidentally, Real Madrid also secured a vital 4-2 victory over Villarreal in January this year after spending time with NFL star Ochocinco at Valdebebas. Well before that, Real Madrid had invited sprinter Usain Bolt to visit the Santiago Bernabeu as they kicked off their 2009/2010 La Liga campaign in style with a 3-2 victory over Deportivo La Coruña.

This weekend, Los Blancos will face Deportivo again at the Riazor where they last triumphed 3-1. They will be hoping that the tradition of winning after a special meeting with a top name continues. Real Madrid are second behind Barcelona with five points off the top of La Liga's table.

Real Mallorca boss Michael Laudrup believes Saturday's opponents Barcelona will be crowned La Liga champions.

Laudrup was a member of Barca's mythical 'Dream Team' under Johan Cruyff in the early 1990s, but the Dane believes the current version presided over by Pep Guardiola is even better.

"This Barca and Frank Rijkaard's are better than the one from my era - they have more individual resources," said Laudrup.

"Pep's team is the best one of all; even without the ball they pressure all the time and they have David Villa, Lionel Messi, Pedro, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Alves.

"The Dream Team will always have one thing they haven't got, though - we came before them."

This season, Barca have a five-point lead over Real Madrid with 14 rounds remaining, but Guardiola has key players missing for the trip to Mallorca.

Captain Carles Puyol, goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Xavi all miss out through injury, while right-back Dani Alves is suspended.

Barca's only defeats this term have come when Puyol has been unavailable, while the absence of Xavi and Alves creates a selection headache for Guardiola.

Three youth-team players - midfielder Thiago Alcantara, goalkeeper Ruben Mino and right-back Martin Montoya - have all been drafted into the squad as cover, although none is likely to start at the Iberostar Stadium.

Despite the current injury worries, Laudrup - who played for both of Spain's big two in a fine career - believes the Catalans will win the league title for the third year running.

"I believe they will be champions because they have more points and will be able to slip up several times, unlike Madrid," he told Sport.

The Danish coach, however, believes the title will go down to the wire, adding: "I've been in Spanish football for 20 years and I've never seen a title decided at the end of January or in February. It will be decided in May."

While for Barca the talk is all of silverware and stylish play, at Mallorca the scenario is very different.

"We have very little money and most of the players are in their first year in the top division," Laudrup added. "But I work with the peace of mind that there are good football people here and they let me get on with my job."

Mallorca, in 11th place with 31 points, held Barca to a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp earlier this season.

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero admits his side desperately need to find consistency to secure European qualification.

The Turin giants lost 2-0 at Lecce last Sunday to fall out of the Europa League places, and they face a crucial clash with Bologna.

Consistency has been Juve's main problem this campaign.

Having lost at Udinese and Palermo, Juve bounced back with victories at Cagliari and against Inter Milan.

However, their hopes of clinching a third straight victory for the first time this season were tarnished at the Via del Mare stadium last weekend.

"It's useless to underline how important the game against Bologna is for us," Del Piero said. "Especially, in view of last weekend's defeat at Lecce.

"Our focus is completely placed on returning to victory and finding consistency.

"We have been thinking of this game since 16:48 of last Sunday."

The Turin giants are seventh in Serie A, seven points behind Lazio who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

Juventus coach Luigi Del Neri will not be able to call on Gianluigi Buffon, with the goalkeeper serving a one-match ban on Saturday.

Marco Storari will replace Buffon in goal while Alessandro Matri is expected to partner Luca Toni in attack.

Bologna travel to Turin in 12th position in the standings, nine points clear of the drop zone.

The Rossoblu lost 1-0 to Roma on Wednesday to concede their first defeat at the Renato Dall' Ara stadium this year.

Bologna coach Alberto Malesani has urged his players to put that setback behind them and concentrate on taking a positive result this weekend.

"We need to forget about this defeat and concentrate on our next game which will be another test for us," Malesani said.

"Juve will be looking to make amends in front of their home fans and we will have to be at our very best if we are to surprise them."

The visitors will be bolstered by the return of Evangelos Moras, Daniele Portanova, Diego Perez and Henry Gimenez from suspension.
