Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Roma Champions League Betting
The Venue is the Donbass Arena, home to Shakhtar and kick off is 19:45 on Tuesday 8th Mar 2011.
In the first leg there was a shock result at Roma’s Stadio Olympico as the Ukrainian underdogs Shakhtar Donetsk beat Roma 3-2 and they take a (possibly vital) one goal lead to their home ground fortress. Shakhtar have a superb record at home and this is reflected in the betting as the bookies have made the home side favourites to win the second leg and odds on to qualify for the quarter-finals.

The Ukrainian stadium has a natural grass pitch, and is situated in the centre of the city, in the Lenin Comsomol Park. The Stadium has a capacity of 50,000 spectators, and expect a capacity crowd on Tuesday night.

The Ukrainian champions were the surprise winners of Group H, beating group favourites Arsenal (who face Barcelona on Tuesday night) into runners-up spot. Roma made it to the knockout stages, as Group E runners-up to last year's losing Champions League finalists Bayern Munich.

In the last match Shakhtar Donetsk scored three away goals in 12 minutes to stun the crowd (and Roma) and leave the bookmakers frantically recalculating their soccer odds. However it was Roma who got off to the better start back in February when Simone Perotta nodded them ahead, but soon after Shakhtar’s Jádson Rodrigues da Silva, commonly known as Jádson, equalised with a deflected strike.

Then Douglas Costa curled in a superb shot from 20 yards to give Shakhtar the lead and Luiz Adriano calmly slotted in the third. Costa is 15/2 with Ladbrokes to get the final goal, quite possibly worth a cheeky punt. Jeremy Menez pulled a goal back for Roma, which could be vital for the end result.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk have won numerous domestic honours and appeared in several European competitions, but they are best known for having won the final UEFA Cup in 2009. They’d love to get back and lift a trophy this year. Roma are no wild cards in this competition though, they are a quality side and have won Serie A three times, as well as winning nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

In Europe, Associazione Sportiva Roma to give them their full name, have won an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Cup in 1990–91. They should feel that hey have the quality to lift the cup themselves and they are capable to overcoming the 3-2 first leg loss.

Defender Nicolas Burdisso appreciates the importance of Tuesday’s clash. "I have faith because we are Roma and we cannot forget this," he crowed, "At the Olimpico we played the game, apart from those ten minutes”. Since the 3-2 defeat Roma are a different side, literally. They have a new (caretaker) manager, Vincenzo Montella and their record reads won two, drawn one and lost one since their shock defeat last month.

But Shakhtar Donetsk winger Willian has vowed his side will finish the job against Roma. "Roma were not in good shape mentally in the first leg. The running was the same, but we took our chances more.” Roma’s superstars Francesco Totti, Mirko Vucinic and Marco Borriello are likely to lead the offensive in Donetsk, but Shakhtar seem to be relishing the challenge. "Totti? He is great, but our coach has been making us watch videos of Borriello and Vucinic," Shakhtar forward Willian Borges da Silva said.
