Liverpool host Manchester United on Sunday, and if the Reds can take points off their old rivals, then the Premier League title race will be wide open. United currently lead Arsenal by four points, but the Gunners have a game in hand.
Both these teams are coming off losses, with United's 2-1 defeat at Chelsea certainly more understandable than Liverpool's shock 3-1 collapse away to struggling West Ham. United though are hurting, and will be without central defenders Nemanja Vidic, who is suspended, and the injured Rio Ferdinand. Sir Alex Ferguson has struggled to find adequate replacements for the stalwart pair, with benchwarmer Wes Brown and inexperienced youngster Chris Smalling expected to get the start Sunday amid the hostile atmosphere at Anfield.
With so much at stake, this game could very well get chippy. Premier League matches between these teams have produced a total of 13 red cards. Only Liverpool-Everton derbies have produced more, with 19.
