Manchester United in historic cup clash against minnows Crawley
Crawley Town take on the might of Manchester United determined not to be caught out in one of the most romantic ties in the FA Cup's 140-year history.

Goalkeeper Michel Kuipers has been undertaking extra training in preparation for an onslaught at Old Trafford, even though United are expected to field a weakened team that may include 17-year-old midfielder Paul Pogba.

Crawley manager Steve Evans has been so concerned about making the right impression on Sir Alex Ferguson that he has splashed out on a bottle of wine that costs more than a season ticket at the non-league club.

Evans, 48, took advice from a wine-buff friend before purchasing a £250 bottle of Rothschild claret to give to fellow Glaswegian Ferguson. He hasn't even told his wife, Sarah-Jane, how much it cost.

Evans said: 'I texted my friend and said: "Help!" There is a famous wine in Glasgow called Buckfast and one or two people have said, "Take him a bottle of Buckfast. He would appreciate that". But I don't know Sir Alex and it might not get the response I would be hoping for.

'My wife keeps asking if I've sorted the wine for the Great One. It's on the credit card at the moment.'

Ferguson, watching his horse What A Friend beaten by a head at Newbury on Friday, was reminded that odds-on favourites do not always win.

Yet, the five-time winner of the famous old trophy will still gamble on another weakened line-up for the fifth-round clash despite having seen his side held by Exeter and Burton in recent years.

Pogba is set to be named in the senior squad for the first time since he arrived in 2009 amid unsubstantiated claims from Le Havre that he had been stolen from them.

And he could be joined by other youngsters Rob Brady and Sean McGinty as United keep one eye on a more demanding knockout tie in Marseilles on Wednesday.

Ferguson said: 'You talk about the FA Cup dying but it won't die as long as you have the sort of giant-killing acts that Crawley have produced. They are the best non-league team for quite a while. They deserve to be in this round and they will make it a cup tie.'

Dimitar Berbatov is unlikely to feature and Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans have been ruled out. Ryan Giggs, who has signed a new one-year deal, is a doubt. Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is expected to make his home debut.
